Quinta do Coala sits on a quiet lane in the Algarve countryside, a short drive from the cobbled streets and market squares of Lagos. The building is traditional Portuguese — thick rendered walls, terracotta roof tiles, and the kind of deep window reveals designed for cooling long before air conditioning existed.
The original tile work was preserved where possible. The stone terrace was relaid rather than replaced. The fruit trees — pomegranates, figs, lemons, oranges — were tended back to health rather than cleared. The result is a house that feels genuinely rooted in its landscape, not pasted on top of it.
Today it sleeps six guests comfortably — two bedrooms in the main house and a separate one-bedroom guest cottage on the same grounds. There is space to spread out, space to be alone, and space to gather everyone together around the outdoor table as the sun goes down.
